About the college:
Mandan Bharti Agriculture College (MBAC), Agwanpur, Saharsa, is a constituent college of Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, Bhagalpur, established in April 2007 to cater to the educational, research, and extension needs of the agriculturally significant Kosi region of Bihar. Located on a 75-acre campus, approximately 7 km from Saharsa Railway Station, the College lies in the Eastern Plains Agro-Ecological Sub-Region and the Middle Gangetic Plains Agro-Climatic Zone, making it an ideal centre for agricultural education and location-specific research.
Named after the renowned philosopher Mandana Mishra and the eminent scholar Ubhaya Bharati, the College reflects the rich intellectual and cultural heritage of the Mithila region. Inspired by their legacy, MBAC is dedicated to academic excellence, scientific innovation, and service to society.
The College offers B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, following the ICAR-recommended curriculum with emphasis on experiential learning, practical training, Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE), Student READY Programme, entrepreneurship, and skill development. Expanding its academic horizon, the College introduced M.Sc. (Ag.) programmes in Agronomy and Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry from the academic session 2024, aiming to produce highly skilled researchers and professionals in sustainable agriculture and natural resource management.
MBAC is equipped with modern infrastructure including an Administrative-cum-Academic Building, advanced laboratories, instructional and research farms, boys' and girls' hostels, library, auditorium, computer laboratory, sports facilities, and a Plant Health Clinic. The campus was inaugurated by Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar in 2015, further strengthening agricultural education in the region.
The College actively undertakes quality education, need-based research, technology assessment, seed production, climate-smart agriculture, and farmer-oriented extension programmes. Through its commitment to innovation, sustainable agriculture, and rural development, MBAC continues to play a vital role in enhancing agricultural productivity, ensuring food and nutritional security, and improving the livelihoods of farmers in Bihar, particularly in the Kosi region.

Objectives
- To impart quality education to students in the field of Agricultural Sciences through modern teaching-learning approaches.
- To undertake basic, strategic, applied, and location-specific research for sustainable agricultural development.
- To conduct extension education programmes for farmers, rural youth, women, and other stakeholders through on-campus and off-campus training, demonstrations, and advisory services.
- To produce and supply quality breeder seed for multiplication into foundation and certified seed.
- To promote innovation, climate-smart agriculture, precision farming, natural resource conservation, and sustainable agricultural development.
- To strengthen collaboration with national and international institutions for research, education, and technology dissemination.
